How many cold emails can you send a day without landing in spam?

Search this question and you'll get a flat number back — 50 a day, 100 a day — as if every mailbox has the same ceiling. It doesn't. The real answer depends almost entirely on how established the sending mailbox and domain already are, which is the variable most of those answers skip.

A brand-new mailbox, or a domain that's never sent bulk email before, has no sending history for providers to trust. Sending even a moderate volume from day one looks anomalous rather than normal, and providers respond to anomalies by filtering, not by giving new senders the benefit of the doubt. For a genuinely new domain, something like 5 emails a day in the first week is closer to the safe range than anything with two digits.

A mailbox that's been sending real business email for months, with normal patterns of opens and replies behind it, can typically handle 50 to 100+ a day without much risk — the exact volume that would flag a brand-new domain is unremarkable once there's history to back it up.

That gap between week one and month two is why "warmup" exists as its own concept: climbing gradually from a handful a day toward a real target over roughly a month, instead of picking one number on day one and using it forever. The climb itself is the safety margin — not any specific number you land on at the end of it. This is also the one part of cold email that's genuinely safer to automate than to manage by hand, since it means remembering to raise a limit every few days for a month; Talyro runs this ramp automatically per mailbox so it climbs on its own instead of depending on someone remembering to bump a setting.
